LONDON, UK – September 27, 2012 – On Wednesday, October 3rd at 2:00 p.m. EDT, OnApp and NetForecast will present a free webinar that explores one of the hottest topics in hosting today: using content delivery networks (CDNs) to compete on equal footing with market giants like Amazon and Akamai.
CDNs enable companies to bring Web content and applications closer to their customers and end users, so pages load faster, shopping baskets update quicker, and applications respond more rapidly. With such clear benefits for CDN users, it’s a lucrative market for hosting providers who offer this service, one that’s predicted to grow to $4.7B by 2015 according to Global Industry Analysts. The challenge for providers, however, is finding an easy and affordable way in.
Addressing this challenge in the webinar, Rebecca Wetzel, a principal at NetForecast and veteran of the data networking industry, will present findings from a new report, Going for the Edge: Why Hosting Providers Should Offer CDN Services. The report explores the benefits of CDN for hosts and end users, the pros and cons of traditional ways into the CDN market, and a new approach that’s gaining rapid momentum – CDNs based on federated cloud infrastructure. The full report will be available for download from OnApp, shortly after the webinar.
“The ants in the Internet ant hill are beginning to pull together to compete on a more even footing against Goliaths like Amazon Web Services,” she writes. “We see an innovative business model—one that federates cloud service providers to offer CDN service over federation members’ infrastructure… anywhere.”
The webinar will be moderated by Liam Eagle, editor in chief at The Web Host Industry Review, and the session will also be joined by OnApp’s Kosten Metreweli, who will present real-world examples of hosts using federated CDNs to create the kind of global reach that, until recently, has only been available to companies with extremely deep pockets.
