OnApp releases fully customizable self-service portal for VMware vCloud Director

Tags: ,

London, UK – 17th February 2016 – OnApp has released a new version of its cloud management portal for VMware vCloud Director. Based on OnApp v4.2, also launched today, the new OnApp portal brings fully customizable self-service to vCloud Director, enhanced metering, monitoring and billing, and a range of other new features that help service providers build more robust and intuitive cloud offerings on the VMware vCloud Director platform.

The new OnApp portal enables self-service for vCloud Director in a uniquely flexible way. Using the OnApp portal, cloud users can order and provision their own virtual datacenters (VDCs) based on any number of templates configured by their cloud provider. Each template can be set up with default resources and limits for cloud resources and whatever level of customization the provider wishes to offer. This greatly simplifies cloud management and provisioning for the provider and its clients.

“OnApp is a recommended portal partner for VMware vCloud Air Network service providers, and with today’s release we’re making it even easier for the VMware ecosystem to grow their cloud business,” said Narendar Shankar, President, OnApp Americas.  “With fully customizable self-service, high availability, multi-vCD support and advanced metering and billing, OnApp is becoming the de facto choice for vCloud providers looking for a fast, stable and rock-solid portal for their cloud services.”

The OnApp portal supports all web browsers and is also available as iOS and Android applications. Other highlights of today’s release include:

  • Multi-vCloud Director support – cloud providers can manage multiple vClouds in one intuitive environment
  • Resource pool billing – OnApp provides a comprehensive alternative to VMware’s native chargeback tools, and now includes the ability to charge for pools of resources allocated from VDCs
  • High Availability – OnApp is the only recommended vCloud Director portal that offers full active-active clustering support, configurable through the UI
  • Enhanced Catalog management – customers can create their own Catalogs based on their choice of storage policy, and upload vApp templates. Service providers can also provide public catalogs to customers, so they can order standard templates
  • Media management – customers can add media files (ISOs) to their catalogs, and mount media files to virtual servers
